No longer Rotating

11 02 2007

Finally got over the “don’t want to disappoint anybody” hump and quit Rotary. It’s odd how, after a couple of months of thinking about it, the moment after I hit <send> on the email (yes, I took the easy way out and resigned/quit/whatever by sending an email to the club president, the member who sponsored me when I joined, and the membership chair), I felt like I had made a rash decision. So, I started planning my backtrack: when one of them responded with an attempt to get me to stay, I’d say I just got overwhelmed worrying about being in charge of publicity and trying to sell sponsorships for our big bike event/fundraiser. Maybe I should just go back to being a “regular” memberI’m sure there are plenty of club members who don’t get involved chairing a committee or fretting over whether they’ve sold anything. Maybe I’d even volunteer to work on the Web site, since it doesn’t look like it’s been updated since early 2006, and doing Web work would fit nicely with the Web stuff I’m doing for the bike club and getting ready to do for the church.

But, of course, it turns out nobody really cared that I quit. The only response I’ve gotten from my email is a return email from the president saying, basically, “goodbye and good riddance.” Still, it was nice to go to work Thursday morning without worrying about how late I’d be after the meeting. On the other hand, I finally bought a frame to put my Rotary membership certificate in, and now I don’t need it. There goes $2 straight down the drain.
